Delhi-<\/strong> Air India (AI)<\/a> and Lufthansa Group<\/a> have announced a significant expansion of their codeshare partnership, strengthening connectivity between the Indian Subcontinent, Europe and the Americas. This agreement includes a new codeshare arrangement with Austrian Airlines (OS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This alongside an expanded network with Lufthansa and SWISS (LX)<\/a>, whom Air India already have codeshare agreement. With the new agreement, Air India will be able to provide more seamless and hassle-free travel options for passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Lufthansa Group Codeshare<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air India (AI) codeshare with Lufthansa (LH)<\/a>, Swiss (LX) and offers 55 routes across various destinations. In this new codeshare agreement, Air India now codeshares with Austrian Airlines (OS) via Vienna. The expansion brings nearly 100 codeshare routes, up from the existing 55.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will enable travelers to access a wider range of destinations. Specifically, 60 new codeshare routes will now be available, covering 12 Indian cities and 26 European cities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement allows Air India passengers to benefit from more flight options and smoother transit experiences through key European hubs operated by Lufthansa Group airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Destinations Under Codeshare<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of this partnership, Air India will now place its \u2018AI\u2019 designator code on various routes operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian Airlines. These three airlines will be covering major European and American destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India will codeshare with Lufthansa on 19 of the German airline’s network from Frankfurt (FRA)<\/a>. With Lufthansa, Air India will also code share on North America and Soth American routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Highlights of Codeshare Agreement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air India and Lufthansa Group carriers will now offer codeshare services on an additional 60 routes. Under this strengthened partnership 12 cities in India and 26 cities across Europe will be covered. The agreement also extends connectivity to three major destinations in the Americas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Expansion to New Destinations<\/strong> \u2013 Air India customers will have access to 26 destinations in Europe and 3 in the Americas. Travelers can fly under the \u2018AI\u2019 designator code on flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian Airlines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Increased European Reach<\/strong> \u2013 Travelers from India can now connect via Frankfurt, Vienna, and Zurich to various destinations. This includes popular destinations such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Geneva, Hamburg, Munich, Nice, Prague, and more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Enhanced Indian Connectivity for Lufthansa<\/strong> \u2013 Lufthansa Group customers can now access 15 cities within India, such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai, and Pune, through Air India\u2019s domestic services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Three Daily Delhi-Frankfurt Flights<\/strong> \u2013 The agreement now includes three daily flight options between Delhi and Frankfurt under the \u2018LH\u2019 flight number, providing greater flexibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. New Codeshare with Austrian Airlines<\/strong> \u2013 This marks the first time Air India has partnered with Austrian Airlines, adding 26 new codeshare routes that enhance connectivity via Vienna.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    These enhancements mean passengers flying between India and Europe will enjoy greater flexibility, fewer layovers, and better access to Star Alliance benefits, including priority boarding, extra baggage allowance, and lounge access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Lufthansa Group Expands Access in India<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Reciprocally, Lufthansa Group passengers will now have the ability to connect to 15 major cities within India on Air India flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    These includes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Goa (both Mopa and Dabolim airports), Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, and Thiruvananthapuram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Additionally, Lufthansa Group airlines will codeshare on Air India\u2019s international flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Kathmandu (KTM)<\/a>, Melbourne, and Sydney. This will enhance global connectivity for Lufthansa Group travelers between India, Nepal, and Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The partnership ensures a more seamless travel experience for customers flying between India and Europe. Flights between India and Germany, Switzerland are now included in the expanded codeshare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Austrian Airlines codeshare will go live very soon as well. Passengers traveling between cities like Delhi and Frankfurt will have more choices, with three daily flight options under Lufthansa\u2019s \u2018LH\u2019 flight numbers\u2014two operated by Air India and one by Lufthansa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Furthermore, both airlines plan to progressively add more destinations to their codeshare agreements, further improving the scope of this partnership. With the new codeshare partnership, Air India might also fly to Frankfurt from more Indian cities such as Bengaluru (BLR)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
