SEATTLE –<\/strong> On February 5, 2025, a Japan Airlines (JAL)<\/a> Boeing 787-9 collided with a Delta Air Lines (DL)<\/a> Boeing 737-800 while taxiing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). The incident occurred at 10:17 a.m. local time, with the JAL 787\u2019s right wingtip striking the tail of the parked Delta 737.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta\u2019s Boeing 737 was stationed for deicing before its scheduled departure to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (PVR), with 142 passengers onboard. Moreover, the JAL 787 had just arrived from Tokyo Narita (NRT) with 172 passengers and 13 crew members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency crews, including Port of Seattle Fire and police, responded to the scene, assisting with deplaning passengers and ensuring safety protocols were followed. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers React as Airport Operations Remain Unaffected<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Several passengers took to social media to share videos and images of the incident. One Delta passenger wrote, \u201cSo, we were sitting on the tarmac at SeaTac, and another plane ran into us – just casually sliced into our tail. Very scary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passenger Jason Chan, who was on the Delta flight, described feeling the plane “jiggle back and forth\u201d upon impact. Shortly after, the captain informed passengers about the collision. Following the incident, all those onboard were bused back to the terminal and rebooked on alternative flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport stated that operations were minimally impacted, as the incident occurred on a taxi lane rather than an active runway. Travelers with upcoming flights were advised to check with their airlines for any updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FAA Investigation Underway<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The FAA confirmed it will investigate the incident, with spokesperson Sam Lichtman stating that authorities are working to determine the cause of the collision. Both Japan Airlines and Delta Air Lines have yet to provide further details regarding the extent of the aircraft damage or potential flight disruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
