REYKJAVIK-<\/strong> Icelandair (FI)<\/a> has announced the launch of a new route to Miami (MIA), Florida, operating three flights per week. The seasonal service will commence on October 25 and run through March, utilizing the airline\u2019s newly introduced Airbus A321LR<\/a> aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Miami (MIA)<\/a> route provides a second gateway to Florida, complementing Icelandair\u2019s existing Orlando service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Southwest Airlines (WN)<\/a> partnership strengthens transatlantic connectivity, and the introduction of Airbus A321LR aircraft modernizes the fleet with improved efficiency and comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Icelandair (FI) has announced Miami (MIA), Florida, as its newest destination, with flights commencing on October 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The service will operate 3 times a week- Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, through March, using the airline\u2019s newly acquired Airbus A321LR aircraft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an approximate flight time of eight hours, the new route enhances accessibility to Florida, a popular winter destination for Icelandic travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This expansion adds Miami as Icelandair\u2019s 19th North American destination and its second Florida gateway, alongside Orlando (MCO)<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known for its vibrant beaches, cultural diversity, and dynamic nightlife, Miami offers travelers an attractive alternative to other Florida cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Icelandair and Southwest Strategic Partnership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On January 15, Icelandair (FI) and Southwest Airlines (WN) formalized a strategic partnership<\/strong>, enabling smoother connections across their respective networks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially, the collaboration launches with connections via Baltimore\/Washington International (BWI), with additional gateways in Nashville (BNA)<\/a> and Denver (DEN)<\/a> set to follow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This agreement offers expanded transatlantic travel options and facilitates streamlined itineraries between Iceland, Europe, and North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest Airlines, the largest domestic carrier in the U.S., selected Icelandair as its inaugural international airline partner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The integration enables Icelandair passengers to access Southwest\u2019s extensive U.S. network, while Southwest customers benefit from direct routes to Iceland and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Icelandair New Airbus A321LR<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In December 2024, Icelandair took delivery of its first Airbus<\/a> aircraft, Airbus A321LR, marking a milestone in its 87-year history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This aircraft is the first of 3 scheduled for delivery before summer 2025 and is part of the airline\u2019s fleet renewal initiative. The A321LR, leased from SMBC Aviation Capital Limited<\/a>, will replace the Boeing 757, which has served as Icelandair\u2019s fleet backbone for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed for efficiency and sustainability, the A321LR offers a seating capacity of 187 passengers, including 22 in Saga Premium and 165 in Economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Pratt & Whitney GTF\u2122 engines, the aircraft achieves up to 30% greater fuel efficiency compared to the B757, reducing CO2 emissions and operational costs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its extended range of 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km) ensures uninterrupted service to existing destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
