NEWARK-<\/strong> A fire alarm aboard a United Airlines (UA)<\/a> Boeing 767-400 led to an unexpected return to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The incident occurred during a flight to San Juan (SJU), Puerto Rico, with the crew safely landing the aircraft despite the mid-flight emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)<\/a> has launched an investigation into the event, which caused a 5-hour delay for passengers. A replacement aircraft was deployed to ensure the journey continued to its destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United Flight Fire Alarm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

United Airlines (UA) Flight UA2143 departed Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)<\/a>, bound for Luis Mu\u00f1oz Mar\u00edn International Airport (SJU)<\/a> in San Juan, The Aviation Herald <\/em>reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About 200 nautical miles southeast of Newark, while cruising at FL310 (31,000 feet), the crew reported a fire alarm originating from the cockpit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, the pilots promptly executed a turnaround and returned to Newark. While approaching the airport, the crew advised that no immediate assistance was needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, audio transmissions captured the sound of a fire bell in the background, confirming the situation’s urgency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing 767-400<\/a>, registered as N59053, landed safely on Newark\u2019s runway 22R approximately 50 minutes after the initial alarm. No injuries were reported, and all passengers disembarked without further issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FAA confirmed the timeline of the event, stating that the incident occurred at around 10 AM local time on Saturday, January 25. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire alarm and assess any potential mechanical or system failures aboard the aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A replacement aircraft, another Boeing 767-400 with registration N76062<\/strong>, was dispatched to complete the journey to San Juan. Passengers faced a delay of approximately five hours before reaching their destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of the latest updates, the original aircraft remains grounded at Newark Liberty International Airport, over 27 hours after the emergency landing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maintenance teams are likely to conduct inspections to identify and resolve any technical issues before the aircraft can return to service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
