CHENNAI-<\/strong> Tata Group-owned Air India (AI)<\/a> flight from Chennai International Airport (MAA) to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) made an emergency landing back at Chennai amid a technical snag on January 10, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gurugram-based carrier operates a daily flight between Chennai and Singapore with Airbus A321 aircraft. It also codeshare with Air India Express (IX) and Singapore Airlines (SQ)<\/a> for additional direct flights between MAA and SIN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Emergency Landing at Chennai<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to FlightRadar24 data, Air India flight AI346 <\/strong>took off from Chennai at 7:16 PM UTC (12:46 AM local time).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After being airborne for around 30 minutes, the flight crew stopped the climb at 31,000 feet (FL310) and reported a technical issue. Following this they made a U-turn and declared an emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To avoid heavy landing or overweight landing, the crew carried out a holding pattern to burn extra fuel over the sea, near the Chennai coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After burning extra fuel for over one hour and 30 minutes, the flight landed safely at Chennai at 10:39 PM UTC (4:09 AM IST). Passengers disembarked the aircraft safely and the team of aircraft maintenance engineers and technicians inspected the plane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight carrying 170 passengers was operated by Airbus A321-200<\/a>, registered as VT-PPO<\/strong>. Further, it is a 15.5-year-old aircraft powered by CFM 56 engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exact details of the technical issues are not known but by looking at the flight data, it couldn’t be a major issue, otherwise, the pilots have landed much earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline then arranged another aircraft to carry passengers to their intended destination. Air India deployed a 7.8-year-old Airbus A320neo, registered as VT-CIE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight took off again from Chennai but with a different aircraft at 2:02 AM UTC (7:32 AM local time) and it landed safely at Changi at 6:37 AM UTC (2:37 PM local time).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similar Incidents<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Well, Air India and its subsidiary Air India Express frequently make headlines regarding flight delays and technical snags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, on January 5, 2025, Air India flight AI2820\u00a0from Bengaluru (BLR) to Delhi (DEL) reported an engine stall and made a precautionary landing<\/a> back at BLR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, on January 3, 2025, an Air India Express flight from Kozhikode (CCJ) to Dubai (DXB) made an emergency landing back at CCJ amid landing gear issues<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year in December, Air India Boeing 787 was stuck on the runway <\/a>at Birmingham Airport (BHX) due to a hydraulic leak from the nose landing gear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are multiple such incidents with Air India Group. Luckily no one was injured onboard or on the ground and the airline is dedicated to the safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
