AMSTERDAM-<\/strong> A Fort Worth-based American Airlines (AA)<\/a> flight from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) with Boeing 787 was diverted back to AMS amid technical issues on January 7, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then the aircraft has been grounded at Amsterdam Schiphol due to multiple mechanical issues, reported Aviation Herald<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines 787 Grounded at Amsterdam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Let’s start with the first problem, According to FlightRadar24 data, American Airlines flight AA203 <\/strong>took off from Amsterdam at 1:46 PM UTC. Shortly after takeoff, the flight crew requested to maintain a Flight Level of 6,000 feet (FL060) due to a technical problem, initially planning to continue along the departure route. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, they later modified their decision to remain near the airport, subsequently climbing to FL130 (13,000 feet) while maintaining below-minimum clean speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft performed fuel dumping procedures over the North Sea before executing a safe landing on runway 18R. The flight landed safely back in Amsterdam at 3:16 PM UTC, almost 90 minutes later from its departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft involved in the incident is a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner<\/a>, registered as N819AN. Further, it is a 7.8-year-old aircraft powered by GEnX engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The technical issue was related to flap operations. However, after landing, the airline decided to operate a flight the next day and they faced a second trouble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second Issue<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines tried to operate a return flight the next day as AA9605 <\/strong>from Amsterdam at 1:30 PM local time and was scheduled to arrive in Philadelphia at 3:32 PM local time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the flight crew reported that there was a hydraulic oil leak from the aircraft. Following this, they canceled the flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And since then it’s grounded in Amsterdam. It’s been over 2 days (53+ Hours at the time of publication of these posts).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
