BOSTON –<\/strong> On Tuesday evening, a JetBlue Airways (B6)<\/a> passenger opened an emergency door while the aircraft was taxiing at Boston\u2019s Logan Airport, deploying the evacuation slide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred on January 7, 2025, on JetBlue Flight 161, which was scheduled to depart for San Juan, Puerto Rico. At approximately 7:25 p.m., the passenger opened the emergency exit over the wing, activating the slide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the action, the passenger remained onboard and was later apprehended by Massachusetts State Police at Terminal C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a Massport spokesperson, the plane was still taxiing when the emergency door was opened. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 6:55 p.m., was delayed until 10:30 p.m. as JetBlue worked to rebook and accommodate affected passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JetBlue confirmed the event in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA customer opened the aircraft door over the wing for unknown reasons while the plane was taxiing. We are working to get our customers on their way as quickly as possible.”<\/em><\/p>\nJetBlue spokesperson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the carrier assured passengers that all crew members and travelers were unharmed during the incident, though the unauthorized deployment of the emergency slide caused operational delays and added costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening an emergency door during taxiing is a serious breach of aviation safety regulations. Emergency slides, which are essential safety features, require detailed inspections and replacement following any deployment. This results in significant delays and financial repercussions for airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
