MELBOURNE-<\/strong> An Etihad Airways (EY) <\/a>Boeing 787 experienced a critical safety incident during takeoff at Melbourne Airport (MEL), forcing emergency procedures when its landing gear caught fire and two wheels exploded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight EY461<\/strong>, carrying 289 passengers and destined for Abu Dhabi (AUH)<\/a>, activated emergency brakes during its takeoff sequence. The incident immobilized the aircraft on the runway with two deflated wheels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Melbourne Airport officials confirmed Etihad Airways flight EY461<\/strong>‘s aborted takeoff during its scheduled departure to Abu Dhabi. The Aviation Rescue and Firefighting Service executed emergency protocols, applying firefighting foam to address potential safety risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft remains on the runway due to damaged tires preventing standard towing procedures. Maintenance crews initiated repair operations while airport staff successfully evacuated all passengers and transported them back to the terminal building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
