KARACHI-<\/strong> Two Pakistan International Airlines (PK) <\/a>flights made a U-turn back to Karachi Jinnah International Airport (KHI) amid technical issues on consecutive days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both flights were domestically operated by the same ATR 42-500 aircraft on January 1 and January 2, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan Airlines Flights U-Turn<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Let us first see the incident that occurred on the first day of the new year 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to FlightRadar24 data, Pakistan Int’l Airlines flight PK503 <\/strong>took off from Karachi<\/a> at 3:12 AM UTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after takeoff, at around 14,000 feet, the flight reported some engine issues and decided to turn back to Karachi, Aviation Herald<\/a><\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gwadar International Airport (GWD)-bound flight landed safely back at KHI at 3:56 AM UTC. The flight remained airborne for around 44 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned above, the flight was operated by ATR 42-500, registered as AP-BHI. Further, it is an 18.2-year-old aircraft and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada Turboprop PW127 engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After PIA technicians and engineers inspected the aircraft, it took off again and landed at Gwadar with a delay of over 5 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second Incident<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, on January 2, 2025, Pakistan Airlines flight PK553 took off from Karachi at 8:05 AM UTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after takeoff, at 5,000 feet, the flight crew reported an issue with the hydraulic system. Following this, the crew made a U-turn and landed safely at Karachi Airport at 8:28 AM UTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will be surprised to know, the flight was operated by the same aircraft AP-BHI involved in engine problems on Jan 1 incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PIA has three ATR <\/a>42-500 aircraft in its fleet of 32 aircraft. Around 50% of its fleet is grounded due to insufficient funds and supply chain issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
