FORT WORTH-<\/strong> American Airlines (AA)<\/a> has unveiled a series of new and adjusted routes, creating opportunities in unserved markets and making strategic changes to its network. While the addition of Washington DCA’s beyond-perimeter route was expected, surprising adjustments were seen at New York\u2019s LaGuardia Airport (LGA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines New York LaGuardia Changes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

New York LGA \u2013 Philadelphia (PHL)<\/strong>: This route, a staple of the network, will be discontinued after June 2024. It operated up to six times daily in prior years but will cease due to declining demand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysis shows only four passengers daily each way (PDEW)<\/strong> in 2024, with high costs averaging $665 per round trip<\/strong>. American held 100%<\/strong> of the market share but failed to sustain profitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York LGA \u2013 Calgary (YYC)<\/strong>: A brand-new Saturday-only route starting in June. This route leverages pre-clearance facilities in Calgary and uses a Saturday perimeter waiver, making it unique. However, Saturday-only flights have historically struggled to meet performance expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York LGA \u2013 Bozeman (BZN)<\/strong>: Another new Saturday-only route launching in June. With 38 passengers daily each way (PDEW) estimated at $920 round-trip, this unserved market could see increased traffic from this addition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York LGA \u2013 Kalispell (FCA)<\/strong>: Starting as a Saturday-only service in June, this route enters an unserved market with 13 PDEW and an average round-trip fare of $1,142. United Airlines currently dominates Kalispell traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Key Additions Across American\u2019s Network<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Chicago ORD \u2013 Halifax (YHZ)<\/strong>: A new Saturday-only route beginning in June 2025. Though market demand data is unavailable, this route caters to a previously unserved transborder market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dallas-Fort Worth DFW \u2013 Quebec (YQB)<\/strong>: Also launching as a Saturday-only route in June 2025, this addition strengthens American\u2019s footprint in Canadian markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington DCA \u2013 San Antonio (SAT)<\/strong>: Starting daily in March<\/a>, this route will cater to a high-demand market. With 175 PDEW estimated at $685 round-trip, the addition positions American to compete more strongly in the DCA-SAT corridor, where Southwest Airlines currently holds a significant share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
