ADELAIDE-<\/strong> Australian flag carrier, Qantas Airways (QF)<\/a> is planning to re-launch a non-stop Adelaide (ADL)<\/a> to Singapore (SIN) flight route, marking a significant potential expansion of international services to South Australia, says 9News<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development emerges alongside China Southern Airlines (CZ) resumption of direct flights from Guangzhou (CAN) to Adelaide, signaling a recovery in international air travel for the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas Adelaide to Singapore Flight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

China Southern Airlines has restarted its Guangzhou-Adelaide route, which was suspended in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic, South Australia welcomed 66,000 Chinese tourists in 2019, and the route’s reinstatement is expected to provide a substantial boost to tourism and trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight route brings substantial economic benefits, unlocking an additional 45 tonnes of cargo space each week. South Australian exports to China have already reached a record $4.43 billion, with the airline operating return flights three times per week until March next year. Industry experts anticipate the route may become year-round as demand increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adelaide Airport chief executive Brenton Cox expressed strong confidence in Qantas’ imminent return to international services. “It’s not if, it’s when,” Cox told 9News<\/em>, suggesting the airline’s commitment to reestablishing international connections after an 11-year hiatus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, the 3,351 Miles (5,392 KM) long Adelaide-Singapore route is served by Singapore Airlines (SQ)<\/a> using Boeing 787-10 aircraft. One of the best carriers in the world operates 3X weekly flights between two major cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas may serve this route with the Airbus A330 fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with China Southern, the Emirates (EK) also resumed its Adelaide-Dubai (DXB) service using Boeing 777-200LR aircraft<\/a> after a 4-yeat hiatus at the start of the winter season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darwin-Singapore Route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In October 2024, Qantas revealed its plans to start direct flights between Darwin (DRW) and Singapore in March 2025, utilizing its new Airbus A220 aircraft<\/a>. The 137-seat aircraft will operate five weekly flights, providing over 70,000 annual seats <\/strong>on this route and replacing the originally planned Embraer E190.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has already received four of its 29 ordered A220 jets, which are progressively replacing the Boeing 717 fleet as part of the Qantas Group’s fleet modernization strategy. The A220’s extended range, nearly double that of the 717s, enables unprecedented connectivity across Australia and opens opportunities for new short-haul international routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The A220’s technical capabilities allow for significant route expansion. Its range enables connection between any two points within Australia and facilitates international connections like the Darwin-Singapore route. Currently, the aircraft operates on various domestic and regional routes, demonstrating its versatility and operational efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Qantas has strengthened its medium-haul international network. It aims to strengthen its hold in the Asia Pacific region. The airline has inaugurated new flights between Brisbane (BNE) <\/a>and Manila (MNL), Philippines. Further, Qantas will commence weekly flights from Brisbane <\/a>to Palau using Boeing 737s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
