HONG KONG-<\/strong> A Malaysia Airlines (MH)<\/a> flight carrying 154 people made an unexpected landing in Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), Vietnam today (November 24, 2024) after experiencing technical difficulties during its journey from Hong Kong (HKG) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight MH79 touched down at Tan Son Nhat International Airport at 10:41 AM local time, significantly deviating from its planned route. The Boeing 737 <\/a>had departed Hong Kong at 9:12 AM following its arrival the previous night at 11:15 PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia Airlines Flight Diverted<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia Aviation Group confirmed the diversion involved 147 passengers and seven crew members. The pilot executed the unscheduled landing as a preventive measure after detecting technical issues during the cruising phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has initiated passenger relocation efforts, transferring travelers to different carriers while providing hotel accommodations for others affected by the disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The pilot in command prioritized addressing the technical concern before proceeding to Kuala Lumpur,” Malaysia Aviation Group stated, emphasizing that safety remained uncompromised throughout the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft involved in the incident is Boeing 737-800, registered as 9M-MXH. Further it is a 12.9-year-old aircraft at the time of publication and is powered by CFM 56-7B engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight HX640 departed Hong Kong International Airport at 9:30 AM, originally scheduled to reach Fukuoka at 1:55 PM local time. The aircraft altered its course and landed at Taipei at 12:07 PM, carrying 283 passengers and 13 crew members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crew announced the suspected fuel leak and diversion plan at approximately 11:30 AM. Passengers remained on board for over two hours during initial inspection attempts before receiving instructions to disembark with their belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight was operated by Airbus A330-300<\/a>, registered as B-LNR. Further it is a 14.8-year-old aircraft and is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hong Kong Airlines confirmed the diversion stemmed from a “technical issue” and initiated a comprehensive aircraft inspection. The airline provided local transportation and hotel accommodations for affected passengers, along with NT$250 (HK$59) meal vouchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident has created a cascade effect on the airline’s schedule, impacting the return flight HX641 from Fukuoka to Hong Kong. Fukuoka Airport’s information systems currently list HX640 as delayed, while Hong Kong Airlines’ website marks the flight status as “alternate.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
