BENGALURU-<\/strong> Tata Group-owned Air India (AI)<\/a> initiates the development of a new Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) Training Organization to deliver a comprehensive four-year Aircraft Maintenance Engineering program under DGCA certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative strengthens India’s aviation infrastructure while supporting Air India’s expansion plans through increased maintenance engineer availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India AME Institute<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The airline partners with Bengaluru Airport City Limited (BLR) <\/a>to construct an advanced 86,000-square-foot training facility. The campus will incorporate modern learning spaces, specialized laboratories, and expert instructors when it opens in mid-2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students will complete two years of academic training followed by two years of hands-on experience at Air India’s upcoming 12-bay Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru, scheduled to launch in early 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program focuses on developing maintenance professionals who meet industry standards and Air India’s technical requirements through practical training and real-world experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India will collaborate with established institutions in Bengaluru and Hyderabad to run interim Cadet AME programs, ensuring continuous development of maintenance engineering talent until the new facility becomes operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India’s Basic Maintenance Training Organization will create a specialized pipeline of engineers trained to meet the airline’s expanding maintenance requirements, announces Sunil Bhaskaran, Director of Aviation Academy at Air India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strategic location near Kempegowda International Airport enables direct exposure to aviation operations, providing cadets with practical industry experience. The program integrates university partnerships, allowing students to pursue concurrent bachelor’s degrees to enhance their academic credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The state-of-the-art facility marks a significant advancement in India’s aviation capabilities,” states Rao Munukutla, Executive Director & CEO of BACL. He emphasizes how this initiative aligns with Kempegowda International Airport’s vision of fostering innovation and collaboration through education and skill development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This development forms part of Air India’s comprehensive Vihaan.AI transformation strategy, which includes the acquisition of over 500 new aircraft currently in the delivery phase. The airline has invested USD 400 million in retrofitting existing aircraft interiors and has begun incorporating line maintenance operations across its airline group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline reinforced its commitment to India’s aviation self-reliance in September 2024 by commencing construction of an extensive Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul facility in Bengaluru. This facility will strengthen Air India’s independent maintenance capabilities while creating new employment opportunities in the aviation sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training organization will equip maintenance engineers with specialized skills aligned with Air India’s evolving fleet requirements. This investment in technical education and infrastructure demonstrates Air India’s dedication to building a sustainable aviation ecosystem within India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
