MONTREAL-<\/strong> Canadian Flag Carrier, Air Canada (AC)<\/a> flight from Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) diverted to Frankfurt Main Airport (FRA) on Thursday (November 21, 2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline currently operates one daily flight between Montreal and Delhi, India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per some unconfirmed reports, the flight was diverted to FRA due to some kind of Medical emergency onboard as the flight took off after some time again. However, there are chances of some technical issues as false warnings. But we will wait for the airline’s official remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now let us establish a flight timeline using FlightRadar24<\/em> data, Air Canada flight AC50 <\/strong>took off from Montreal at 2:33 AM UTC. After being airborne for around six hours and covering the Atlantic Ocean, the flight started its descent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight started its descent from 33,000 feet and landed safely at Frankfurt (FRA) at 8:42 AM UTC. The crew did not declare an emergency (Squawk 7700) and that’s why we can say it’s a precautionary landing. The aircraft then taxied to the isolation bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After being on the ground for around one hour and 40 minutes, the flight departed at 10:21 AM UTC for Delhi and landed safely at 5:25 PM UTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight was operated by a 6.8-year-old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner<\/a>, registered as C-FVLX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a similar and separate incident this month, an Aer Lingus (EI) flight from Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), Portugal to Dublin Airport (DUB) was diverted<\/a> to Porto Francisco S\u00e1 Carneiro Airport (OPO) amid a medical emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canada India Tensions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Transport Canada has introduced enhanced security screenings for passengers <\/a>flying from Canada to India, primarily affecting Air Canada flights. Transport Minister Anita Anand confirmed the measures on Monday, describing them as “temporary additional security screening measures” taken as a precaution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada began notifying passengers over the weekend about the new protocols, warning of increased wait times at security checkpoints. The airline advised travelers to arrive at airports at least four hours before departure to minimize potential disruptions. The message, shared with the Hindustan Times<\/em>, emphasized the importance of planning ahead and thanked passengers for their patience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Air Canada spokesperson confirmed the airline\u2019s compliance with Transport Canada\u2019s directive, noting that the heightened measures apply to all carriers operating flights from Canada to India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toronto Pearson Airport also alerted travelers to expect delays. In a post on X, the airport cautioned passengers about longer wait times for international pre-board screening and urged travelers to check with their airlines and allocate extra time for their journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These steps come as part of a broader effort to ensure passenger safety, though specific details about the nature of the heightened screenings have not been disclosed. The measures are expected to remain in place until further notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
