STOCKHOLM-<\/strong> European low-cost carrier Wizz Air (W6)<\/a> flight from Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN), Poland to Tromso Airport (TOS), Norway was forced to make an emergency diversion landing to Stockholm (ARN), Sweden due to reports of smoke in the cabin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hungarian-based carrier operates three weekly flights between Gdansk and Tromso with an Airbus A321neo fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wizz Air Emergency Landing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to FlightRadar24 data, on November 16, 2024, Wizz Air flight W61771 took off from Gdansk at 6:04 PM local time and after being airborne for around 30 minutes at 35,000 feet, the crew reported some kind of smoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this, they decided to make a diversion to Stockholm Arlanda Airport<\/a>. ATC alerted the Maritime and Air Rescue Centre and told them to stay alert and prepare for incoming Wizz Air aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight landed safely in Stockholm at 7:20 PM local time. The aircraft taxied to the isolation bay at ARN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rescue leader Marcus Clemert confirmed with Expressen that the crew deemed it unsafe to continue to Troms\u00f8, prompting the diversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency medical teams and fire services were deployed to Arlanda in preparation for the landing. Despite the alert, there were no immediate reports of injuries or passenger health issues, and the aircraft remained fully functional during the diversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a successful landing, emergency operations scaled down, and rescue teams left the site. The cause of the smoke indication is under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft involved in the incident is Airbus A321-271NX (A321neo)<\/a>, registered as 9H-WNC. It is just a 9-month-old aircraft and is powered by Pratt and Whitney\u00a0PW1100G-JM (GTF) engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the latest update, the Wizz A321neo, 9H-WNC is ferrying back to Gdansk as WZZ403.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta Air Lines flight DL850 from Atlanta (ATL) to Washington D.C. (DCA) was diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on November 6, 2024, following reports of fumes in the cockpit<\/a>. A Delta spokesperson confirmed with us that the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft landed safely at RDU, and passengers were re-accommodated on a replacement flight, which departed RDU at 9:14 p.m. and arrived in D.C. at 10:04 p.m. local time. Delta issued an apology for the delay, reiterating its commitment to passenger safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, on August 3, 2023, a Spirit Airlines Airbus A320 operating a flight from Orlando (MCO) to Bogota (BOG) made a precautionary landing at Fort Lauderdale (FLL) due to smoke inside the cabin<\/a>. Four cabin crew members sustained injuries during the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, the United Airlines (UA) Boeing 777 flight turned back to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on July 4, 2023, after smoke was detected in the flight deck. The aircraft landed safely, with no injuries reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
