FORT WORTH-<\/strong> American Airlines (AA)<\/a> has adjusted its route network, adding a daily service between Columbus (CMH) and Los Angeles (LAX) beginning in March 2025, while ending the Columbia (CAE) to Chicago (ORD) route in January 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines New Route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines, Spirit Airlines (NK)<\/a>, and Southwest (WN)<\/a> have unveiled some network adjustments for 2025, with changes affecting multiple markets across the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fort Worth-based American Airlines is implementing several strategic seasonal adjustments, particularly focused on the Boston (BOS) market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carrier will operate flights from Boston to MCO (Orlando), MSY (New Orleans), and RSW (Fort Myers) exclusively in February 2025, with the New Orleans service specifically timed for Super Bowl LIX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Columbus-Los Angeles route<\/strong> sees strong potential, with traffic for the year ending June 2024 showing 287 passengers each way daily (PDEW) at an average round-trip fare of $633, an increase from 247 PDEW in June 2023 when fares averaged $797. Market share for June 2024 showed Spirit leading with 57%, followed by Delta (DL) and Southwest, Enilria <\/a><\/em>reported<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Columbus-LAX route\u2019s point-of-sale split is 59% in Columbus and 41% in Los Angeles. This addition will provide a daily service, meeting growing demand and boosting capacity compared to November 2024\u2019s limited weekly offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Columbia-Chicago route<\/strong>, however, will end after January. This route averaged 92 PDEW in June 2024 at an average fare of $576, up from 68 PDEW in June 2023 with fares of $677.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current market share is led by United at 66%, with American at 28%. Despite stable annual demand, Q1 numbers have shown a decrease, leading to the route\u2019s cancellation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Existing frequencies were 3.0 daily flights from November to February, offering 198 seats per day on average, with United (UA) operating two daily flights and American providing one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
