SEATTLE-<\/strong> Alaska Airlines (AS)<\/a> is set to launch an upgraded version of its Mileage Plan, already considered the industry’s most generous loyalty program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting January 2025, members will enjoy accelerated paths to elite status, personalized rewards, and expanded opportunities for earning and redeeming miles globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Brett Catlin, Vice President of Loyalty, Alliances, and Sales at Alaska Airlines, announced the multi-year initiative to enhance the Mileage Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2025 rollout will introduce more frequent perks and new ways to earn elite status, including through award travel. Catlin hinted at further improvements later in the year as Alaska Airlines integrates its loyalty platform with Hawaiian Airlines (HA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The merger between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, finalized in September, marks a unique approach in U.S. aviation by maintaining both brands. This consolidation has already yielded benefits for customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members can now transfer miles between Alaska and Hawaiian loyalty accounts at a 1:1 ratio without fees, and both airlines’ flights are available for purchase on either website. Additionally, Hawaii residents will gain access to a new travel program offering exclusive discounts and benefits starting November 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The revamped Mileage Plan introduces a milestone-based reward system for 2025. Members will unlock perks at various elite-qualifying mile (EQM)<\/strong> thresholds, beginning at just 10,000 EQMs. This approach extends benefits to a wider range of members, not limiting them to those with elite status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At each milestone, members can select their preferred reward from options including bonus miles, lounge access, temporary status upgrades, EQM rollovers, and access to exclusive events and experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional milestones are set at 30,000, 55,000, 85,000, 150,000, 200,000, and 250,000 EQMs, complementing the existing MVP (20,000 EQMs), MVP Gold (40,000 EQMs), MVP Gold 75K, and MVP Gold 100K status levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Ways to Earn EQMs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Alaska Airlines is revolutionizing its Mileage Plan program, introducing new pathways for members to earn Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and achieve elite status faster than ever before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting January 1, 2025<\/strong>, the airline will implement several innovative methods for accumulating EQMs, both in the air and on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expanded program maintains Alaska Airlines’ commitment to rewarding members with at least 100% of miles flown when booking through alaskaair.com or the airline’s app. These miles continue to count as EQMs for flights with Alaska, Hawaiian, and their global partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Award travel redemptions now contribute to elite status. Members flying on award trips with Alaska Airlines or its partners will earn EQMs based on the distance flown. This change applies to all award trips from January 1, 2025, with EQMs being credited to accounts beginning in spring 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance, a round-trip award flight between Seattle and Tokyo-Narita, covering 9,538 miles, will yield 9,538 EQMs, significantly boosting a member’s progress toward elite status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaska Airlines Visa\u00ae cardholders gain a new advantage in 2025. The card will generate one EQM for every $3 spent on qualified purchases, up to a maximum of 30,000 EQMs annually. This benefit activates automatically for cardholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline is also enhancing EQM’s earning potential through non-airline partnerships. Members will receive 1,000 EQMs for every 3,000 miles earned with eligible everyday travel partners. This expansion allows activities like taking Lyft rides to contribute towards achieving elite status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new milestone choice at 85,000 EQMs offers the option to roll over 10,000 EQMs to the following year, providing a head start on maintaining status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

30 Gobal Partner Carriers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The airline has 30 domestic and international partner airlines<\/strong>, including oneworld Alliance <\/a>members, and now provides access to over 1,200 worldwide destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has simplified its mileage earning structure for global partners. Bookings made through alaskaair.com<\/em> with 23 direct partners will earn members 100% of flown miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Premium cabin travel will yield even greater rewards: 150% mileage bonus for Premium Economy, 250% for Business Class, and up to 350% for International First Class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multi-carrier redemptions will be introduced this winter, allowing members to combine flights from different partners for a single trip. Initially focusing on U.S.-Europe routes, this feature will expand to other regions and partners throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, Alaska Airlines will launch “Extras,” enabling members to redeem miles for exclusive experiences and events. The airline will also offer more Global Getaways, providing seasonal discounts on international award redemptions. Since April, members have saved nearly 50 million miles through these promotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upgrade system will undergo significant changes later in 2025. Million Milers will receive top priority within their tier, followed by members ranked by their earned elite-qualifying miles, regardless of ticket price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MVP members’ companions on the same reservation will now be eligible for complimentary, space-available upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members holding upgrade certificates will receive alerts when confirmable upgrade space becomes available, ensuring they don’t miss opportunities to enhance their travel experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
