MONTREAL-<\/strong> Air Canada (AC) <\/a>announces a tentative four-year collective agreement with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), representing over 5,200 pilots<\/strong> at Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new agreement acknowledges the pilots’ contributions and professionalism while establishing a framework for the airline’s future growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada Pilot Accepts Contract<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The agreement’s terms remain confidential pending a ratification vote by ALPA members, expected to conclude within the next month. The Air Canada Board of Directors must also approve the agreement before it takes effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This development marks a significant milestone in labor relations for Canada’s largest airline. The agreement aims to balance pilot compensation<\/a> and working conditions with the airline’s operational needs and growth strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada implemented a labor disruption goodwill policy allowing customers to change flights scheduled between September 15 and 23, 2024, to dates before November 30, 2024. With the tentative agreement in place, these customers can now revert to their original flight dates at no additional cost, subject to seat availability in the same cabin class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under Negotiations for Months<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) have been in negotiations for 15 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the two sides have reached a tentative agreement on a large number of items for a new collective agreement, the union remains inflexible on its unreasonable wage demands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Federal Labour Minister assisted the negotiation process by appointing a conciliator and mediator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada and its regional carrier Air Canada Rouge currently operate close to 670 daily flights <\/strong>on average, transporting more than 110,000 passengers within Canada and internationally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every day, Air Canada flights bring approximately 24,000 Canadians back home from abroad and return about 15,000 foreign visitors to their home countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada operates globally to 47 countries on six continents with a fleet of 252 aircraft,<\/strong> which will have to be repositioned or repatriated along with their crews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
