The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports that the planes were on alternate taxiways when the collision happened.

The Tokyo-bound flight carried 221 passengers, while the Louisiana flight had 56 people on board. No injuries were reported, according to a spokesperson for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The aircraft involved in the incident is Airbus A350-900, registered as N503DN. Further, it is a 7-year-old aircraft powered by Rolls Royce (RR) Trent XWB-84.

Passengers from the damaged Endeavor Air flight were seen deplaning in photos and videos following the collision. Delta Airlines has stated that affected passengers will be accommodated on alternate flights.

The size difference between the two aircraft is significant. The Airbus A350, one of Delta’s largest planes, weighs approximately 600,000 pounds when fueled. In contrast, the Bombardier CRJ900, among the smallest in Delta’s fleet, weighs around 70,000 pounds.

Airport operations have experienced minimal impact from the incident. The FAA has announced it will investigate the collision to determine its cause and any potential safety implications.

Photo: Andrew E. The collision was so subtle that damage was unknown in Atlanta and both flights took off from Atlanta.

Despite colliding with a Virgin Atlantic plane, Delta flight DL105 from Atlanta to Sao Paulo (SAO) took off and landed safely at SAO with a damaged winglet.

The Aviation A2Z Team contacted Delta Air Lines and they issued the following statement:

“Delta is fully cooperating with investigators in a review of Delta flight 105 on August 31 from Atlanta to Sao Paulo, where damage to a winglet was identified after landing.
