Thousands of employees across all departments face retraining to adapt to the new aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pilots confront the most dramatic change, transitioning from traditional controls to a joystick system. Reinout Verkerk, the chief pilot of the new fleet, describes it as &#8220;going from a steering wheel to a joystick, like on a game console.&#8221; KLM plans to train approximately 100 pilots annually, with each undergoing a three-month training program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Marjan Rintel, President &amp; CEO KLM<\/strong> said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><em>I\u2019ve been looking forward to this with great anticipation. Maintenance hangars require modification to accommodate the new aircraft, while mechanics must master the intricacies of the new Leap engines. Andr\u00e9 Fonken, a mechanic, highlights the technological advancements: &#8220;The blades are made of fireproof composite, lighter and 25% less noisy.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baggage handling undergoes a significant transformation. Maud Lange, Baggage Process Manager, explains the shift &#8220;from individual loading to a container system.&#8221; This change aims to improve working conditions for ramp employees. KLM will deploy <strong>1,700 new luggage containers <\/strong>to support this new system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u20ac7 billion investment covers the acquisition of 50 new Airbus aircraft. This strategic decision impacts not only KLM but also Schiphol Airport and other served airports, which must upgrade their facilities to accommodate the new fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KLM initiates a significant fleet modernization program, allocating seven billion euros for aircraft acquisitions. KLM Cityhopper will integrate new E2 aircraft alongside existing Embraer 175 and 190 planes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long-haul operations will see the addition of five Boeing 787-10s, followed by Airbus A350s replacing older 777 and A330 aircraft. The inaugural flight will operate on the <strong>Amsterdam (AMS)-Copenhagen (CPH)<\/strong> route as KL1267\/1268.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The A321neo will also serve Amsterdam-Berlin [BER] (KL1777\/1778) and Amsterdam-Stockholm Arlanda [ARN] (KL1225\/1226) routes starting September 16, 2024. KLM will temporarily suspend A321neo service from October 1 to October 3, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KLM&#8217;s new A321neo features enhanced passenger comfort with wider seats, larger tray tables, and expanded baggage bins.
