KUALA LUMPUR-<\/strong> AirAsia<\/a> Maintenance Repair Operation (MRO) Organisation AirAsia Digital Engineering (ADE) scraps its first-ever hangar in Kuala Lumpur (KUL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capital A, the parent company of AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes shared this news on LinkedIn and penned emotional notes about his and his team’s memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AirAsia Scraps its Hangar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mr Fernandes wrote, “It was an emotional day for me and for our engineering team. Happy, nostalgic, sad but mostly excited for the next chapter.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He mentioned the importance of tradition never to forget old at AirAsia. He invited the original team that worked at the old hangar over the years and those who all retired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, while they are scrapping the aging hangar, it will be rebuilt next to its new hangar. The airline continues to innovate while utilizing existing and old resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hangar was Tony’s first investment, worth $5 million, but he invested $500,000 with the help of his article friend. The hangar served the low-cost carrier’s maintenance needs for over 20 years. It was a major milestone that led to the birth of its own engineering unit, ADE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AirAsia Digital Engineering is one of the most developed MROs in the world. It uses advanced technologies such as blockchain, spares management software, VR training, and much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further wrote, “It was also high for me to know the four faces from the billboard we made of five engineers, which was facing Malaysian Airlines at the time, and it read ‘the world’s best engineers are here’, are still with us after 20 years. We are an amazing company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Fernanded also stated, “We have created history by building the greatest culture and the cheapest hangar, which has now evolved into ADE\u2019s 14 bay hangar, which will be officially launched soon.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He finally concluded the post with praise for the current CEO of ADE, Mahesh Kumar, Mr Bull, and Liew Lim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Facility in Vietnam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In May 2024, Asia Digital Engineering (ADE) Cambodia Co Ltd obtained the Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) certification from the Cambodia State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA). This marks ADE’s first business approval outside Malaysia, signaling a significant expansion for the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) <\/a>subsidiary of Capital A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newly certified ADE Cambodia will provide essential MRO services to AirAsia Cambodia and other airlines operating in Cambodia’s major airports. This move aims to bolster the country’s aviation ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahesh Kumar, CEO of Asia Digital Engineering, expressed enthusiasm about the approval. He emphasized ADE’s commitment to delivering high-quality MRO solutions and contributing to Cambodia’s aviation industry. Kumar outlined plans for further investment in advanced technologies, capability enhancement, and workforce development at the new facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ADE Cambodia will establish its headquarters at Phnom Penh International Airport, Cambodia’s primary international gateway. The company plans to extend its operations to other Cambodian airports in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tony Fernandes, Chief Executive Officer of Capital A, highlighted ADE’s continuous growth and its goal to become the leading MRO provider in ASEAN. He linked this achievement to the recent launch of AirAsia Cambodia, underscoring Capital A’s expansion strategy across its business lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its establishment in 2020, ADE has built a reputation for professional MRO services and digital products. The company completed its 100th C-Check in December 2023, setting a record timeframe of 2.5 years since inception. ADE’s plans include launching a 14-line hangar in Kuala Lumpur in Q3 2024, further expanding its service capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
