Ground crews towed the Boeing 777 back onto the runway.

Swiss International Air Lines confirmed that all 319 passengers remained unharmed throughout the incident.

The airline will conduct a thorough examination of the aircraft for potential damage. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing and subsequent runway excursion is underway.

The airline said: “SWISS confirms that the crew of flight LX161 from Tokyo to Zurich made a stopover in Astana (Kazakhstan) due to a medical incident on board. The passenger concerned was handed over to medical personnel on-site. The landing was uneventful.”

It further wrote: As the taxiway at Astana airport was closed, the crew had to turn the aircraft on the runway. The aircraft’s nose wheel got caught in the grass. The aircraft had to be towed back onto the runway. The Boeing 777 aircraft will now be examined by specialists for damage.”

“We are now working at full speed to fly our passengers from Astana to Zurich or their destination asap. As rebooking options in Astana are limited, the possibility of sending a new aircraft and crew from Zurich is also being examined. There were 319 passengers on board,” added the airline.

Stay tuned with us.
