The aircraft, registered as 4K-SW008, was operating flight 7L904 from Tokyo Narita to Baku (GYD) when the incident occurred.

The crew rejected the takeoff at approximately 140 knots ground speed, managing to slow the aircraft and exit the runway via a high-speed turnoff. After stopping, they reported an engine fire in the number 2 engine, located on the inboard left side of the aircraft.

The flight crew discharged both fire bottles in an attempt to extinguish the blaze. They believed the fire was successfully put out but reported hot brakes, prompting a call for emergency services.

Responding emergency teams cooled the aircraft’s brakes. However, several tires deflated due to the intense heat generated during the high-speed abort.

As per FlightRadar24 data, the aircraft is still in Tokyo. It will fly to Baku on August 17, 2024.

Silk Way West is an Azerbaijan-based freighter operator and sister of Silk Way Airlines (ZP).
