SHANGHAI-<\/strong> Air China (AC) <\/a>successfully conducted test flights for its first COMAC C919 aircraft<\/a>, signaling progress in the commercial deployment of China’s domestically manufactured jet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The state-owned Aviation Industry Corp of China reported the maiden test flight occurred on Friday, with delivery expected by August’s end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COMAC C919 Test Flight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air China’s C919 configuration features a dual-class layout, accommodating 158 passengers with eight business and 150 economy seats. This arrangement represents the most spacious cabin design for the C919 to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) reportedly provided positive feedback on the C919, potentially facilitating its entry into European markets and attracting international customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China Southern Airlines completed its inaugural C919 test flight in Shanghai on August 3. Meanwhile, China Eastern Airlines, the C919’s first commercial operator, has expanded its fleet to seven aircraft since launching commercial services in May 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Market expert Qi Qi told the Global Times<\/em> that Air China’s successful test flight demonstrates growing airline confidence in the C919, likely accelerating its commercial adoption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3000+ Commercial Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As more C919s enter service and accumulate flight hours, industry experts predict increased confidence and order growth from both current and potential customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Developed with independent intellectual property rights and adherence to international civilian aviation regulations, the C919 aims to compete in the global market currently dominated by Boeing and Airbus. China Eastern Airlines became the world’s first operator of the C919 in 2022, marking a milestone for Chinese aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent data shows the C919 fleet has completed 3,133 commercial flights, transporting nearly 420,000 passengers as of August 3. This operational success demonstrates the aircraft’s reliability and performance in real-world conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The C919’s prospects for entering the European market are also improving. According to a South China Morning Post report, Chinese civil aviation authorities express optimism about receiving EU certification in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Industry experts emphasize that obtaining type certifications from the US Federal Aviation Administration and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)<\/a> will significantly boost the C919’s international expansion and user base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1000+ Orders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Global demand for the C919 continues to grow, with orders surpassing 1,000 units. Major Chinese airlines have placed substantial orders, demonstrating confidence in the domestically developed aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China Eastern Airlines (MU) leads with an agreement for 100 C919s, in addition to its initial five. Air China and China Southern Airlines (CZ) have each ordered 100 units, with deliveries scheduled from 2024 to 2031.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
