FARNBOROUGH-<\/strong> GE Aerospace announced a significant contract with International Airlines Group (IAG) owner of British Airways (BA) <\/a>to supply GEnx engines for six new Boeing 787 Dreamliners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These aircraft will join the British Airways fleet, marking the airline’s first use of GEnx engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Airways 787 GEnX<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Russell Stokes, President and CEO of Commercial Engines and Services at GE Aerospace, highlighted the historical significance of this deal. British Airways, the launch customer for GE’s successful GE90 engine, now expands its partnership with GE through this adoption of GEnx.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GEnx-1B engine dominates the 787 market, powering two-thirds of all Dreamliners in service. It offers a 1.4 percent fuel efficiency advantage over competitors for typical 787 flights, enhancing airline operational economics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GE Aerospace emphasizes the GEnx’s compatibility with approved Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blends. This feature aligns with growing industry efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IAG praised the GEnx engine’s performance, citing its reliability and proven fuel efficiency. The company expressed confidence in the GEnx-787 combination, highlighting its potential to enhance British Airways’ operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GEnx engine family boasts an impressive track record. Since its 2011 introduction, it has logged over 56 million flight hours. Further, this engine has become GE Aerospace’s fastest-selling high-thrust engine, with nearly 3,000 units in service or on order, including spares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Airways already operates aircraft equipped with other GE Aerospace engines. These include the GE90, CF34, and LEAP engines. CFM International, a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines, produces the LEAP engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
