FARNBOROUGH-<\/strong> Boeing <\/a>secures a major deal with Korean Air (KE) <\/a>for up to 50 widebody airplanes. The airline intends to purchase 20 777-9s and 20 787-10s, with options for 10 additional 787-10s. This agreement supports Korean Air’s fleet expansion and renewal plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Korean Air targets high-demand markets in Europe and North America, as well as popular Asian routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Korean Air Boeing Order<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 777-9 and 787-10 aircraft offer improved efficiency and versatility, enhancing the carrier’s global network flexibility. This move aligns with Korean Air’s anticipated merger with Asiana Airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walter Cho, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air, emphasizes the strategic importance of this fleet upgrade. He highlights the aircraft’s potential to improve passenger comfort, and operational efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 777-9, known as the world’s largest and most fuel-efficient twin-engine jet, can accommodate 426 passengers in a two-class layout. It boasts a range of 13,500 km. The 787-10 offers seating for up to 336 passengers and a range of 11,730 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This deal positions Korean Air as the latest customer for the 777-9 model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

50 years of Relationship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Boeing’s Stephanie Pope emphasizes Korean Air’s long-standing relationship with the company. She highlights the role of Boeing aircraft in Korean Air’s operations over the past 50 years. Pope states that the 777X and 787 Dreamliner will support the airline’s sustainability and growth goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 777-9 incorporates advanced technologies from the 787 Dreamliner family. It features new carbon-fiber composite wings and engines, offering 10% better fuel efficiency, CO2 emissions, and operating costs compared to competitors. The 787’s fuel efficiency has helped operators avoid over 169 billion pounds of CO2 emissions since its introduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Korean Air, recently ranked the world’s #2 airline by airlineratings.com, aims to optimize its global route network. The airline plans to equip its new 787-10s with business-class suites and Wi-Fi, enhancing its award-winning onboard service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carrier’s Aerospace Division supplies components for the 787 program, including the distinctive raked wing tip. It also produces parts for other Boeing models like the 737 MAX, 767, and 777. This involvement in manufacturing strengthens the partnership between Korean Air and Boeing beyond aircraft purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
