DELHI-<\/strong> Tata-backed Air India (AI)<\/a> flight AI183 from Delhi Int’l Airport (DEL) to San Francisco (SFO) has been diverted to Krasnoyarsk International Airport (KJA) in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exact reason cited by Air India on X formerly Twitter is due to technical issues. However, some Russian media reported that there was a fire alarm in the cargo compartment where passenger luggage was secured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Air India flight AI-183 operating Delhi to San Francisco has been diverted to Krasnoyarsk International airport (UNKL) in Russia due to a technical reason. The aircraft has landed safely and we are working with relevant authorities to ensure guests are taken care of while we decide the next course of action. At Air India, the safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew remains top priority.”<\/p>Air India on X<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

On FlightRadar24, more than 10,000 people tracked flight AI183 at one point in time. So let’s see the flight details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India flight AI183 took off from Delhi at 3:44 PM IST and was scheduled to land at San Francisco (SFO)<\/a> at 6:20 PM local time. But the flight faced technical issues as mentioned above and was diverted to Krasnoyarsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, luckily this time, Krasnoyarsk International Airport is a major Russian airport and has proper immigration facilities. As per 2017 traffic data, it is the 14th busiest airport in the country. It is also a crucial hub for Russian state carrier Aeroflot (SU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So passengers can have some comfort and will not be forced to sleep on the floor without proper food or at an unsafe airfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to some reports, there are around 243 passengers onboard the Boeing 777<\/a>, registered as VT-ALG<\/strong>, a 15-year-old aircraft, which is powered by GE90 engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some reports have suggested that after inspection, no fire or smoke was detected in the cargo compartment. So inspection is completed and the flight will be airborne again shortly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
