CHICAGO-<\/strong> Fort-Worth-based carrier, American Airlines (AA)<\/a> flight from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to London Heathrow (LHR) made an emergency landing a few minutes after takeoff as it experienced an in-flight engine shutdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred on July 8, 2024, a flight operated by Boeing 787 returned safely to Chicago and the aircraft is still on the ground at the time of publication of this article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines AA90 Engine Shutdown<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to Aviation Herald, the American Airlines Boeing 787 right engine shutdown in-flight. Such incidents are rare and can happen once in thousands of flights. However, a twin-engine airport is capable of landing safely with one engine in operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now as per the Flight Radar 24 data, an American Airlines flight took off from Chicago after an hour delay at 2:35 PM UTC. After being airborne for just 23 minutes, the right engine GEnX shut down, and the flight crew contacted ATC to make an emergency landing back in Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without wasting any time, the flight made a U-Turn and landed safely at Runway 28C. The emergency vehicles followed the aircraft till the aircraft reached the apron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft involved in the incident was a 6-year-old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registered as N836AA and powered by GEnX engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the American Airlines flight AA1182 from\u00a0\u00a0Memphis<\/a>\u00a0(MEM) to\u00a0\u00a0Phoenix\u00a0(PHX) witnessed the in-flight engine\u00a0shutdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight operated by 23-year-old\u00a0Airbus\u00a0<\/a>A319 registered as\u00a0N821AW\u00a0<\/strong>was forced to make an emergency landing back at\u00a0\u00a0Memphis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
