NEW YORK-<\/strong> JetBlue (B6)<\/a> today (June 26, 2024) announced its intention to apply with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for slot exemptions to operate a second daily nonstop flight between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Luis Mu\u00f1oz Mar\u00edn International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)<\/a> Reauthorization Act of 2024 authorizes slot exemptions for five additional roundtrip flights at DCA beyond the airport\u2019s 1,250-mile perimeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JetBlue Washington to Puerto Rico<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

JetBlue, which has operated the only daily nonstop service between DCA and SJU since receiving slot exemptions in 2012, aims to enhance this popular route by adding a second daily flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This move highlights JetBlue’s enduring commitment to Puerto Rico and provides additional convenient service in both directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This application is part of JetBlue’s broader initiative to boost connectivity to and from Puerto Rico. This includes adding more domestic and international destinations, introducing the airline\u2019s popular Mint premium service between New York <\/a>and San Juan, and establishing a pilot and flight attendant crew base in San Juan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The additional daily flight would also support connectivity to the U.S. Virgin Islands, including St. Thomas and the new service to St. Croix set to launch in December, as well as other destinations in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executive Remarks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJetBlue looks forward to submitting our application to strengthen the connection between Reagan National and our focus city, San Juan, with convenient double-daily low-fare roundtrip flights between the two capitals,\u201d said Robert Land, JetBlue\u2019s head of government affairs and associate general counsel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPuerto Rico, known as \u2018La Isla del Encanto,\u2019 relies on air service to maintain and enhance its connection with the mainland United States, especially with Washington, D.C,” added Mr. Land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since joining the Puerto Rico community in 2002, JetBlue’s low fares and exceptional customer experience have quickly made it a preferred carrier on the island. JetBlue currently employs over 370 crewmembers in Puerto Rico and continues to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline also serves Aguadilla and Ponce, and with upcoming services in San Juan, it will operate flights to 18 nonstop destinations from the three airports it serves on the island by the end of 2024. This winter, JetBlue will average 46 departures per day from Puerto Rico, more than any other airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
