DELHI-<\/strong> Hungary-based Wizz Air (W6)<\/a> is targeting the Indian market, aiming to connect European cities with Indian destinations at competitive prices. The ultra-low-cost carrier, with over two decades of aviation experience, is in discussions with both Indian and European regulators to launch its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wizz Air’s CEO<\/strong>, Jozsef Varadi<\/strong>, pointed out that the high cost of air travel between Europe <\/a>and India is a significant barrier for the Indian diaspora, a challenge the airline is keen to address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wizz Air India Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With the addition of Airbus A321XLR<\/a> aircraft to its fleet starting early next year, Wizz Air plans to offer non-stop services that can cover the distance between the two regions in approximately eight to eight-and-a-half hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Varadi stated that the airline is negotiating with governments and regulatory bodies to ensure a smooth start of services, aiming for an average one-way fare of around 200 euros (over Rs 18,000), with potential fares dipping below 100 euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subject to obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals, Wizz Air expects to commence its India operations in the next financial year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline plans to connect six or seven major European cities with key airports across India, enhancing international traffic flow, which has seen a recent uptick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, Wizz Air operates more than 750 routes across a network of over 190 airports in more than 50 countries.<\/p>Wizz Air CEO<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Varadi mentioned that Wizz Air has been designated as a carrier from Italy<\/a>, Austria, and Hungary, and discussions are underway with Indian authorities for recognition and approval of these designations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Affordable, Strong, Resilient Growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a point-to-point carrier listed on the London Stock Exchange, Wizz Air believes it can provide valuable services to India’s aviation sector without burdening its domestic industry. This viewpoint was expressed by Varadi during his participation in the CAPA India Aviation Summit 2024 held in New Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wizz Air operates through four airline entities: Wizz Air Hungary Ltd, Wizz Air UK Ltd, Wizz Air Malta Ltd, and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi LLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CEO expressed a strong interest in expanding operations from Abu Dhabi to India. Furthermore, Wizz Air is investing in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)<\/a> production companies, emphasizing its commitment to environmentally sustainable aviation practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline’s focus on affordable travel, combined with its strategic expansion initiatives, could have a significant impact on air travel between Europe and India, providing passengers with more options and competitive pricing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As discussions progress and regulatory approvals are sought, the anticipation surrounding Wizz Air’s entry into the Indian market continues to mount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European carrier serves a network of 194 destinations across 54 countries<\/strong>, offering approximately 930 routes as of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
