LIMA-<\/strong> OneWorld Alliance member carrier, Iberia (IB) <\/a>Airbus A350 hits the pole at JCapit\u00e1n FAP Ren\u00e1n El\u00edas Olivera Airport (PIO) in Lima, Peru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lima Airport has recently faced issues with faulty runway lighting, following this many flights were diverted to nearby airports in Peru and other South American countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iberia A350 Hits Pole<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On June 2, 2024, the European <\/a>carrier, Iberia flight from Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Madrid\u2013Barajas Airport to Jorge Ch\u00e1vez International Airport, Lima was one of the many who earlier diverted to nearby Capit\u00e1n FAP Ren\u00e1n El\u00edas Olivera Airport (PIO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But while taxiing the aircraft at the PIO airport, the pilot mistakenly hit the wing with a pole. Following this, the wing sustained damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to FlightRadar24 data, 96-year-old airline, Iberia Flight IB6659\u00a0<\/strong>took off from Madrid at 12:02 PM UTC, and after being airborne for almost 12 hours, the flight was forced to divert to a nearby airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Airbus A350-900<\/a> registered as EC-OCR, which is just a 7-month-old aircraft, and entered service in October 2023 landed safely at PIO airport at 12:25 AM UTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not the first time that aircraft has hit the objects on the ground or collided with each other during pushback or taxing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similar Incidents<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In August 2022, a Qatar Airways Cargo <\/a>flight operated by Boeing 777 collided with a light pole at Chicago O’Hare Airport (ORD). Following this right wing sustained major damage and the aircraft was grounded for a few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 2024, A collision occurred between a\u00a0Virgin Atlantic (VS)\u00a0<\/a>Boeing 787 and a\u00a0British Airways (BA)<\/a>\u00a0Airbus A350 at\u00a0London Heathrow Airport (LHR)<\/a> prompting a significant emergency response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2024, Atlas Air (5Y)<\/a>\u00a0Boeing 747 operating flight to\u00a0Miami (MIA)\u00a0<\/a>was diverted to\u00a0\u00a0Fort Lauderdale<\/a>\u00a0(FLL), and while taxiing wing tip collided with one of the Hangar structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
