DALLAS-<\/strong> Southwest Airlines (WN)<\/a> plans to apply to the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) for a new daily nonstop flight between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas (LAS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This application is part of the opportunities created by the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, which introduced five new round-trip flights at DCA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest Washinton to Las Vegas Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The proposed nonstop service aims to provide consumers with more options and increase competition on the DCA to LAS route, which currently has only one daily flight operated by another airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If granted the route, Southwest expects to offer significantly lower average fares from DCA to LAS. This addition would also enhance connectivity from LAS, where Southwest has over 260 departures daily during the summer, benefiting communities across the western United States, including Hawaii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Southwest’s application will propose the only one-stop, same-plane service between DCA and Sacramento International Airport (SMF) via LAS. This direct flight between California’s capital and the nation’s capital would further enhance competition and consumer benefits on the DCA route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jacky Rosen. “I fully support Southwest’s application for nonstop service between DCA and Harry Reid International Airport, as it will provide more options for visitors to Nevada and support vital tourism jobs.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This essential service between the nation’s capital and the world’s entertainment capital will create new opportunities for travelers,” said Rosemary Vassiliadis, Clark County Director of Aviation. “Southwest Airlines, our largest commercial carrier, accounts for over 34% of our annual passengers at LAS. Expanding this crucial service to and from DCA will offer business and leisure travelers more convenient nonstop options.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

175-seater 737 to Serve the Route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Southwest intends to operate the proposed service daily using Boeing 737 aircraft<\/a> with 175 seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest uniquely provides every customer with up to two checked bags for free (size and weight limitations apply) and travel funds and frequent flyer points that never expire. In its 50+ year history, Southwest has never charged a change fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
