BENGALURU-<\/strong> According to Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), Indian airlines are anticipated to enhance their global connections from Bengaluru (BLR) <\/a>within the next 12-18 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Air India (AI) <\/a>and IndiGo (6E)<\/a> have been leading in international traffic growth at Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM) respectively, Emirates (EK) <\/a>has been the primary airline in terms of seat deployment from Bengaluru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bengaluru Airport International Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The scenario is evolving, with IndiGo experiencing a remarkable increase of over 57 percent in international flights from Bengaluru compared to the previous year, now securing the top position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“IndiGo has recently introduced several exciting routes, including a direct flight to Bali in March,” stated a spokesperson from BIAL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Air India has also revealed plans to establish a hub with a focus on developing long-haul direct routes from Bengaluru within the next few years. Additionally, Akasa Air, one of India’s newest carriers, is in discussions with us regarding the launch of international routes from Bengaluru.”<\/p>BIAL Spokeperson<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The spokesperson further added, “IndiGo has emerged as the leading international carrier in terms of deployed seats. We anticipate this trend to strengthen in the coming 12-18 months as the fleet-related challenges faced by Indian carriers gradually ease.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In FY2023-24, international traffic witnessed a growth of 23.5 percent, reaching 4.67 million passengers compared to the previous year. Key international destinations included Dubai, Singapore, Doha, Bangkok, and Abu Dhabi during the last fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In related news, Australian airline Qantas (QF) revealed plans on Tuesday <\/a>to increase flights between Sydney and Bengaluru starting from mid-December<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently offering five weekly services, Qantas will elevate its frequency to a daily service from mid-December until next March. This expansion will result in the addition of 12,000 seats between the two cities over the four months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace expressed, “The demand for travel between India and Australia remains remarkably strong. These additional flights are strategically scheduled to accommodate more travelers heading to Australia during the summer season, facilitating reunions for families and friends over the holiday period.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India’s New Base Maintenance Facility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Last week, Air India (AI)<\/a> announced that it has selected SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) as its strategic partner to enhance Air India\u2019s Base Maintenance facilities (MRO facility) in Bengaluru<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this collaboration, Air India will closely collaborate with SIAEC on the planning, construction, development, and operationalization of Air India\u2019s Base Maintenance facilities in Bengaluru, India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Air India, expressed,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe partnership with SIA Engineering Company will not only enhance Air India\u2019s self-sufficiency in maintaining its fleet but also demonstrate our commitment to bolstering India\u2019s aviation infrastructure by fostering the growth of the country\u2019s MRO sector.\u201d<\/p>Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Air India<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Expected to be operational by 2026, these facilities will include wide and narrowbody hangars and associated repair shops to meet the expanding Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) requirements of the aircraft fleet in the Air India Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, Air India had announced the establishment of state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (operated by Bangalore International Airport Ltd), commencing with Airframe Maintenance and subsequently expanding to include widebody and narrowbody aircraft hangars for all checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
