Esquivel III, the Philippines\u2019 assistant secretary for aviation and airports, on May 9, aims to &#8220;upgrade and further liberalize international air services between both countries.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/pu76ppum.png\" alt=\"Singapore Airlines and Philippines Airlines Codeshare \" class=\"wp-image-63426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/pu76ppum.png 1024w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/pu76ppum-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/pu76ppum-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/pu76ppum-150x84.png 150w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/pu76ppum-450x253.png 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo: Singapore Airlines<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-singapore-philippines-codeshare-flights\">Singapore Philippines Codeshare Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), on May 12, the MOU enhanced the bilateral air services agreement (ASA), initially enacted in 2010 and last amended in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement permits Singaporean and Philippine airlines to operate up to 150 weekly <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?s=Codeshare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">code-share services,<\/a> facilitating travel between Singapore and Manila, including third-country airlines as code-share partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responding to inquiries from <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/singapore-philippines-upgrade-weekly-code-share-flights-with-new-mou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Straits Times<\/a><\/em>, CAAS clarified that code-sharing agreements enable airlines to market seats on each other&#8217;s flights, share revenue, and offer passengers a wider range of travel options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In this instance, the entitlements are calculated based on flights,&#8221; the authority stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This marks a substantial increase from the current 35 weekly code-share services limit. This freedom extends to services between Singapore and any location in the Philippines involving airlines from ASEAN or the <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?s=Europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Union<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, Philippine airlines, fully owned or controlled by individuals from other countries, will have access to the traffic rights established in the ASA, but only if their principal place of business is in the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, only airlines owned and effectively controlled by Philippine nationals were eligible for this privilege, as stated by CAAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Yee emphasized, &#8220;Creating a conducive regulatory environment is crucial to enabling our carriers to seize new business prospects.
