DELHI-<\/strong> Tata-owned Air India (AI)<\/a> flight from Delhi (DEL) to Chicago (ORD) had to perform an emergency landing at Tashkent International Airport (TAS) due to a medical crisis involving an 86-year-old female passenger who suffered a heart attack mid-flight, as reported by Uzbekistan Airports<\/em> on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India flight AI127 is operated by Boeing 777-300ER<\/a>. On May 8, 2024, Air India deployed VT-ALK to serve this route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Delhi to Chicago Flight Emergency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft touched down at Tashkent airport at 06:44 (GMT+5), and the affected passenger, accompanied by a companion, was promptly transported by ambulance to the Republican Scientific Centre for Emergency Medical Care for urgent treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uzbekistan Airports reported, “Following the resolution of the medical emergency, preparations were made for the Air India aircraft to resume its journey to Chicago <\/a>from Tashkent airport.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, Uzbekistan Airports had announced plans to construct a new cargo terminal at Tashkent International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an anticipated annual throughput capacity of 120,000 tons, the terminal aims to enhance the airport’s efficiency in handling cargo and accommodate the increasing demands of the aviation industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to FlightRadar24 data, the Air India flight AI127 <\/strong>took off from DEL at 9:53 PM UTC. After being airborne for almost 3 hours, the flight crew reported that the passenger had suffered a heart attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of this medical issue, the aircraft flew over Kazakhstan and decided to divert to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for better medical assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight landed safely in TAS at around 1:44 AM UTC, one hour after the declared emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight took off again, this time from TAS after 5 hours at 6:57 AM UTC, and landed safely at Chicago (ORD) at around 7:09 PM UTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India is the only carrier allowed to operate using the Russian airspace<\/a> for its flights to Europe and North America. This is due to the strong relationship between Air India and the Russian aviation organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the Russia-Ukraine war, North American carriers such as American Airlines (AA), United (UA)<\/a>, and Air Canada (AC) are forced to choose alternate routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
