GURUGRAM-<\/strong> Tata-owned Air India Group’s budget carrier, Air India Express (IX)<\/a>, has canceled over 70 international and domestic flights from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning (May 8, 2024) due to a “mass sick leave” taken by senior crew members, according to a statement from the airline’s spokesperson. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, the Air India Express spokesperson stated we are currently discussing with the crew to comprehend the factors contributing to these incidents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Express Sick Leave<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

AI Express spokesperson said, “Our cabin crew members have called in sick unexpectedly, starting last night and causing flight disruptions and cancellations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Concurrently, our teams are proactively addressing the situation to minimize any inconvenience experienced by our guests. Those affected by the cancellations will receive either a full refund or the option for complimentary rescheduling<\/strong> to an alternative date,” the spokesperson emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the spokesperson urged guests scheduled to fly on the day to verify if their flight had been impacted before proceeding to the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We extend our sincere apologies to our guests for the unexpected inconvenience. We want to underscore that this situation does not align with the service standards we aim to uphold.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)<\/a> and the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) are currently investigating these issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Vistara (UK) pilots<\/a> collectively requested sick leave, reacting to a proposed revised salary framework that the airline intended to enforce in preparation for its merger with Air India (AI).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vistara informed pilots that those who disagreed with the new pay structure would not be prioritized on the upgrade sequence list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, they would forfeit the one-time bonus promised to pilots. Vistara stated that such pilots would be considered uninterested in continuing with Air India and thus excluded from the transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this, thousands of flights were affected, and the company faced criticism from the media and passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
