From holding a stable 90% share of local travelers, American’s market share has dropped to around 60%.

Photo: Enilria and Ishrion Aviation

On the other hand, Spirit Airlines has seen a rapid rise in its market share, from virtually nothing to around 35-40%. With the addition of the CLT-MIA route, Spirit is expected to boost its presence in the Charlotte market further.

Adding to the mix is Frontier Airlines (F9), another major ultra-low-cost carrier, which has announced plans to operate 3x weekly flights on the CLT-MIA route.
