MUMBAI-<\/strong> Mumbai’s vibrant international airport (BOM)<\/a> is set to undergo essential pre-monsoon maintenance, leading to the temporary closure of its two runways for six hours on May 9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The closure, scheduled from 11 am to 5 pm, aims to facilitate necessary upkeep activities crucial for ensuring safe and efficient operations, as announced by Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), the airport operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mumbai Airport Runways Closed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s (CSMIA) <\/a>monsoon preparedness strategy, both the primary runway 09\/27 and the secondary runway 14\/32 will be temporarily out of operation on this day for maintenance and repair purposes, as stated in MIAL’s announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In anticipation of this requirement, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued to airlines and stakeholders in December, advising them to adjust flight schedules accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reassuring minimal disruption, the release emphasizes that the maintenance work will be carried out without affecting flight movements or causing inconvenience to passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detailed Inspection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Covering an expanse of around 1,033 acres, Mumbai Airport features an extensive infrastructure network that includes runways, taxiways, and aprons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its annual maintenance regimen thoroughly examines runway surfaces to evaluate wear and tear caused by daily operations, both at micro and macro levels. These efforts aim to enhance the integrity and durability of the airside strip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite handling roughly 950 flight movements daily, the airport management remains steadfast in ensuring smooth operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary runway 09\/27 stretches over 3,448 meters by 60 meters, while the secondary runway 14\/32 spans 2,871 meters by 45 meters, catering to the diverse range of aircraft navigating Mumbai’s airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
