NEW YORK-<\/strong> The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)<\/a> has issued a warning stating that flights to and from the New York area may face disruptions following a magnitude 4.8 earthquake in the New Jersey area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier today, both New York (JFK) Airport<\/a> and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) <\/a>implemented a ground stop. As of the latest update, it appears that both ground stops have been lifted, although a “ground delay” remains in effect at Newark Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Earthquake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the event of significant disruption at an airport, the FAA has the authority to implement a ground stop. This action halts departing flights destined for the affected airport, preventing the airport from becoming overwhelmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ground stops may be initiated in response to various factors, including catastrophic events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
