SYDNEY-<\/strong> Qantas (QF)<\/a> travelers journeying between Australia and Papua New Guinea can now access a fresh direct link between the two nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, the national carrier inaugurated its first commercial passenger flight from Sydney (SYD) to Port Moresby (POM), marking the airline’s initial service between the two cities in over fifty years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas Papua New Guinea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Qantas’ Boeing 737 aircraft <\/a>will service the route twice weekly, contributing over 36,000 additional seats annually. These flights complement Qantas’ existing daily service between Brisbane (BNE) <\/a>and Port Moresby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cam Wallace, Qantas International CEO, emphasized that the new route would bolster the strong connections between Australia and Papua New Guinea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese flights will cater to the increasing demand from the business community for travel between Australia and Papua New Guinea,\u201d stated Mr. Wallace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur new Sydney service will reduce travel time by at least three hours round-trip for customers, eliminating the need for a stopover in Brisbane.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sydney to Port Moresby Flight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Qantas initiated operations in Papua New Guinea during the 1940s, deploying two light aircraft based in Lae for local flights. The introduction of Qantas’ four-engine DC4 Skymaster on the Sydney \u2013 Port Moresby \u2013 Lae route commenced in 1950. By 1959, Port Moresby was a refueling stop for Qantas flights to Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The addition of this route marks the latest international service expansion in Qantas’ network departing from Sydney. It aims to facilitate business and trade ties between Australia and Papua New Guinea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers traveling from Papua New Guinea to Australia will benefit from seamless connections to Qantas’ domestic flight routes and international destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas customers and Frequent Flyers can accrue and redeem Qantas Points on these flights, alongside premium amenities such as complimentary food and beverages, checked baggage, and access to Sydney lounges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
