IRELAND-<\/strong> At the 2024 Aviation Summit, Ryanair (FR)<\/a> CEO Michael O\u2019Leary revealed that their engineers have discovered Boeing spanners in their recently acquired 737 MAX aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This revelation by O’Leary arises amidst ongoing criticism concerning safety and quality standards. At the Aviation Summit 2024, Ryanair’s CEO addressed the issues with 737 MAX aircraft deliveries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline employs 30 engineers in Seattle and Wichita for inspections, and upon receiving a new aircraft, they conduct a 48-hour inspection in Dublin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I have confidence in David Calhoun, the CEO of Boeing, and Brian West, the CFO. However, I am less confident in the management in Seattle. Another concerning issue we’ve encountered is the absence of handles on seats, which raises additional concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We often discover minor issues such as missing spanners under floors and handles absent from seats, which are unexpected for such a high-value asset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These concerns are legitimate for a customer like Ryanair, which demands high quality and standards for their Boeing 737 MAX<\/a> aircraft. O\u2019Leary has been critical of the American manufacturer throughout his participation in these events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What Boeing requires in Seattle is not solely a salesperson. They need someone who will oversee daily operations, address delays, identify issues in the supply chain, and take corrective actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discrepancies in Quality Standards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ryanair’s discoveries will likely prompt action as the FAA maintains quality oversight. Additionally, Boeing must submit plans to the regulator within 90 days for production line enhancements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The industry will closely monitor the comprehensive list of measures taken, given the significant revenue generated by the 737 MAX for Boeing. As Boeing Commercial Airplanes faces anticipated financial losses this year, attention will focus on its recovery prospects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview with Skift, he expressed his dissatisfaction with Stan Deal, the President and CEO of Boeing’s Commercial Airplanes division: “Do I have confidence in Stan Deal? That’s the wrong question. “I believe Stan Deal needs to demonstrate his ability to improve operations in Seattle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Boeing requires strong leadership. Stan Deal needs to step up his efforts. “He should be present in Seattle daily, ensuring aircraft production progresses smoothly. “They don’t need to focus on sales; they’re already fully booked until 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
