This move comes after JetBlue faced challenges terminating its American Airlines (AA) partnership and obstructing the Spirit Airlines (NK) acquisition due to anti-trust issues.

The airline has also been grappling with a decline in stock prices and is working to defend itself against corporate raider Carl Icahn.

Despite its limited size, many anticipated that when Aer Lingus (EI) departed from Terminal 5 at New York JFK, where JetBlue operates, JetBlue would take over the Aer Lingus lounge space. However, a more probable scenario involves JetBlue establishing a lounge in the new terminal that is scheduled to be operational in two years.

JetBlue is set to have a new terminal, Terminal 6, at New York JFK. The initial six gates are expected to open in early 2026, followed by the remaining six in 2028. A lounge in this new terminal appears to be the most likely scenario, as the terminal is designed to accommodate ‘up to’ five airline lounges and an arrivals lounge.

The new terminal will also feature landside and airside connections to the current JetBlue-operated Terminal 5.

Photo: Wikimedia Commons

Might Offer Exceptional Services at the Airport

Gary Leff, in viewfromthewing, reported that JetBlue boasts an exceptional premium cabin product in-flight yet experiences challenges in delivering a coherent and premium ground service, operation, and ambiance. Introducing a lounge could potentially address these issues.

At present, JetBlue’s business class serves retail bottles of white burgundy priced at $100 or more (along with some respectable $35 reds), significantly exceeding industry norms. While this provides an excellent option for informed customers, the airline falls short of actively promoting this offering.

There are speculations that JetBlue is contemplating introducing a premium cabin across the majority of its fleet. This decision essentially hinges on whether the airline aims to position itself as a premium carrier offering more first-class amenities with lounges or as a low-cost carrier without a premium product.

Interestingly, even Southwest Airlines (WN) has been experimenting with providing club lounge access to select customers.

Stay tuned with us.
