Largest Order of All Time<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rumors surrounding the agreement were sparked by a report in Aviation Daily <\/em>on February 17, stating that American’s board granted authorization for a substantial order of 167 planes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Insiders familiar with the matter from American, headquartered in Dallas (DAL)<\/a>, and McDonnell Douglas suggest that the airline likely finalize an order for 67 MD-80s and retain options for an additional 100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement surpassed the record set by Delta Air Lines (DL)<\/a> in 1980, involving a US$3 billion order for 60 Boeing <\/a>757s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
