NEW YORK-<\/strong> A flight from New York (JFK) <\/a>to Madrid (MAD), Spain, operated by American Airlines (AA) <\/a>had to make an unscheduled landing in Boston (BOS) on Wednesday night after the plane’s windshield cracked more than two hours into the journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Departing from JFK Airport at 7:28 p.m. with a destination of Madrid, Flight 94 experienced difficulties prompting an Alert 2 at approximately 9:46 p.m., as reported by NBC Boston and citing the Massachusetts State Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines New York to Madrid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An Alert 2 signifies significant issues with the aircraft, and there is a possibility of a challenging or crash landing, according to the City of Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX)<\/a> Response Aviation Emergencies procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plane, flying over the Atlantic Ocean at the time, reversed course and safely landed back in Boston at 10:03 p.m., according to data from the FlightAware tracking website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to a “maintenance issue,” the Boeing 777-200<\/a>, which operated the American Airlines flight from the US to Madrid, had to land in Boston, as confirmed by the airline in a statement to The Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement mentioned that the flight landed safely, and the maintenance team took the aircraft out of service for inspection. Passengers were provided with overnight hotel accommodations, and a replacement aircraft is scheduled to depart for Madrid on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline apologized for any inconvenience caused and emphasized its commitment to avoiding disruptions to customers’ travel plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
