The new facility enhances the training capacity for United’s extensive pilot team, currently numbering 16,000.

With the addition of the new building, United’s Flight Training Center now boasts eight buildings, offering over 700,000 square feet of training space and housing 46 state-of-the-art full-motion flight simulators.

These strategic personnel, infrastructure, and technology investments align with the airline’s United Next plan. CEO Scott Kirby, alongside leaders from the Flight Training Center and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, celebrated the facility’s opening, emphasizing the critical role these advancements play in supporting United’s rapid growth within the industry. Kirby stated,

“We’re growing faster than any airline in the industry, and our investments in our pilots and their training are critical to support the unprecedented number of new aircraft United will add to our fleet in the decades ahead. With room for expansion, the new building can accommodate six more full-motion flight simulators. This expansion results in a grand total of 52 full-motion flight simulators and 34 fixed training devices available at the Flight Training Center.

The introduction of the new building significantly boosts the training capacity, allowing the Flight Training Center to conduct over 32,000 training events annually and cater to the training needs of up to 860 pilots each day. In the summer of 2023, the airline revealed the acquisition of two parcels of undeveloped land near Denver International Airport (DEN). This acquisition is crucial for the expansion of its Flight Training Center, addressing the current capacity constraints at the existing site. The goal is establishing flight training capabilities at the expanded Flight Training Center by 2028.

Recognizing Denver as its fastest-growing hub, United has injected nearly $1 billion in recent years to enhance the overall customer experience at DEN. This investment encompasses the introduction of new gates, cutting-edge United clubs — including the largest in the United network to date — and a modernized check-in lobby. In the past year alone, United hired over 2,500 individuals in Denver, with plans to add more than 1,000 employees in 2024.

As the airline with the most flights and passengers in the state compared to any other carrier, United is set to offer over 500 daily departures from DEN this summer, featuring 40 new summer flights. The airline provides services to more than 175 destinations, spanning 10 countries, from the Mile High City.

Photo: By tjdarmstadt – IMG_0388.jpg, CC BY 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=61530146

Embarking on Aviation Careers

United stands out as the preferred career destination for pilots, boasting the largest widebody fleet in North America and an extensive global network with hubs across the U.S. In 2023, United pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International, ratified a new four-year contract.

United facilitates diverse paths to the flight deck to ensure optimal opportunities for pilots:

First Officer Hiring: Tailored for experienced pilots meeting United’s hiring criteria and ready for immediate engagement with the airline.

Aviate® Program: An innovative pilot career development initiative that provides aspiring and established pilots with the most direct route to a position on a United flight deck.

United Aviate Academy: A wholly owned flight school by United, specifically designed for individuals with minimal to no flying experience, fostering a pathway into the world of aviation.

United Military Pilot Program: Launched in September 2023, this groundbreaking program extends conditional job offers as First Officers to full-time, active-duty U.S. military pilots, marking a pioneering initiative in the industry.

Stay tuned with us.
