GURUGRAM-<\/strong> IndiGo Airlines (6E)<\/a> is set to launch freighter flights to China <\/a>by the end of this month, aiming to leverage the robust demand for inbound cargo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As India’s largest domestic airline, IndiGo currently operates three freighters to destinations such as Sharjah, Myanmar, Vietnam, and various airports within India<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo Cargo Flights to China<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mark Sutch, Chief Commercial Officer (Cargo) at IndiGo, mentioned on Wednesday, “We are currently in the process of seeking approval from Chinese civil aviation authorities. Our goal is to commence the service by the end of February.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline plans to introduce three weekly services connecting Guangzhou to Kolkata<\/a>, with one of them extending to Mumbai, reported Hindu Business Line<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline is actively seeking interline partnerships with Chinese carriers to facilitate the transportation of cargo to destinations within China and East Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo has already established interline collaborations with ten international airlines, contributing to the growth of cargo volumes on its domestic flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strong Growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mark Sutch, Chief Commercial Officer (Cargo) at IndiGo, shared during the Air Cargo India event in Mumbai <\/a>on Wednesday, “Our monthly cargo carriage has reached approximately 30,000 tonnes<\/strong>, with a year-on-year revenue growth of 10 per cent. Cargo has evolved into a core business for us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further elaborated, stating, “We are expanding our flight frequencies and destinations, aiming to double the utilization of our freighter fleet to 8-9 hours per day.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sutch highlighted that yields on international routes are still below pre-pandemic levels, while those in the domestic market remain constant. However, he emphasized the profitability of their cargo operations, attributing it to a better product mix and an increase in cargo volumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
