NEW DELHI-<\/strong> An incident occurred on Sunday morning (Feb 11, 2024) at the Delhi International Airport (DEL)<\/a> involving an IndiGo (6E)<\/a> aircraft during landing, resulting in the temporary closure of one runway for about 15 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Airbus A320 aircraft<\/a>, assigned to flight 6E2221<\/strong>, deviated from its intended path and ended up at the dead end of runway 28\/10 at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) after being unable to locate the designated taxiway. This occurrence briefly disrupted flight operations, affecting a few scheduled flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo Missed the Taxiway in Delhi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately, the situation was promptly resolved as the aircraft was towed to a parking bay by an IndiGo towing van.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per an informed source, the IndiGo flight originating from Amritsar failed to locate the taxiway during its landing at the Delhi airport. This deviation resulted in the temporary closure of one runway, specifically runway 28\/10, for approximately 15 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred at IGIA, the largest airport in the country, renowned for handling around 1,400 flights on a daily basis. Despite the brief interruption, IGIA is equipped with four operational runways to manage the flow of air traffic efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the event caused a momentary disruption, no comments have been received from IndiGo regarding the incident. It is customary for airlines to issue statements following such incidents, providing insights into the circumstances and potential preventive measures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A possible crash was narrowly averted at Delhi airport (DEL)<\/a> on August 23, 2023, when a Vistara (UK) Airlines<\/a> plane received clearance for takeoff while another aircraft was in the midst of landing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The takeoff was promptly halted upon directions from the Air Traffic Control (ATC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this incident, Flight UK725, bound for Bagdogra, was initiating its departure from the recently inaugurated runway. Meanwhile, another Vistara flight traveling from Ahmedabad to Delhi had just landed on a parallel runway and was proceeding toward the far end of the same runway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBoth aircraft were granted clearance simultaneously, but the Air Traffic Control (ATC) quickly intervened. The ATC officer in charge instructed the Vistara flight to cancel its takeoff,\u201d revealed an official who was informed about the incident, as reported by ANI<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Delhi-Bagdogra flight promptly returned to the parking area after the take-off was halted on the active runway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials confirmed that the aircraft was refueled to ensure it had sufficient fuel for a return to Delhi in case adverse weather conditions were encountered in Bagdogra. They also examined the braking system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to airport authorities, failure to halt the taking-off aircraft at the appropriate moment could have resulted in a serious accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
