DELHI-<\/strong> Indian airlines, presently holding an order book for 1,618 planes, may increase their orders by approximately 380 more aircraft by March next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The surge in demand for air travel, both domestically and internationally, is driving this potential expansion, as stated by aviation consultancy firm CAPA India on Friday (Jan 19, 2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indian Airlines Aircraft Order<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The anticipated additional orders are anticipated to originate from Air India (AI)<\/a>, which is considering converting some of its existing 370 options into firm orders over the next few months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, other Indian carriers might contribute to this growth with potential additional orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February of the preceding year, when Air India placed an order for 470 planes with Airbus <\/a>and Boeing<\/a>, the airline under Tata Group’s management retained an option to order an additional 370 aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CAPA India highlighted that the current order book for Indian airlines is nearly 1,620 aircraft (excluding orders from Go First (G8)<\/a> and SpiceJet (SG) <\/a>and considering Thursday’s Akasa Air [QP]<\/a> order). It is projected to rise to around 2,000 aircraft by March 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Record Year for India<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The total count of 1,618 aircraft excludes Go First due to “uncertainty,” as the airline faced insolvency in May of the previous year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SpiceJet, having recently secured funding from over 60 investors, has been grappling with financial challenges over the past several quarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CAPA India highlighted that in 2023, Indian airlines surpassed the aircraft orders of any other nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the combined order book for Western aircraft in India stands as the second-largest globally, following the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
