MUNICH-<\/strong> The Lufthansa Group<\/a> is actively in the process of establishing its new subsidiary, “City Airlines,<\/a>” which is earmarked to manage feeder traffic to and from Munich and Frankfurt. To effectively carry out this role, City Airlines requires its own adequately sized fleet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the immediate future, this fleet will be comprised of existing Airbus A319s<\/a>, and in the medium term, the airline is set to integrate 40 new Airbus A220-300s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lufthansa City First Aircraft<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Notably, the inaugural Airbus A319 sporting the distinctive livery of the new “City Airlines” has recently been identified. The aircraft bearing the registration D-ABGH will soon be relocated to the Munich base in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City Airlines is set to bolster its fleet with 40 new Airbus <\/a>A220-300s, marking a strategic move by the Lufthansa Group to enhance its feeder flight services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision, finalized on December 19, 2023, also includes an option for the acquisition of an additional 20 A220s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural delivery is scheduled for 2026, featuring a configuration with 148 seats, and the complete delivery of all 40 Airbus A220-300s is anticipated to conclude by 2031.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In alignment with the Lufthansa Group’s commitment to sustainability, the Airbus A220-300 boasts impressive fuel efficiency, consuming approximately 2.5 liters per 100 passenger kilometers, contributing to the efficient operation of City Airlines’ feeder flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Temporary Solution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a temporary solution to meet the 2024 launch deadline for City Airlines’ flight operations, the Airbus A319 has been employed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With over 40 A319s in Lufthansa’s existing fleet, this interim measure ensures the seamless commencement of operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
