CHICAGO-<\/strong> In the wake of a substantial winter storm causing power outages and disruptions across 12 states, airlines in the United States<\/a> had to cancel approximately 1,400 flights on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The adverse weather conditions, coupled with forecasts predicting an intense freeze over the weekend, led to widespread challenges for businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US Airlines Cancels Nearly 1,400 Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As of 8:16 a.m. ET, FlightAware, the flight-tracking website, reported a total of 1,395 flight cancellations and 788 flight delays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta Air Lines (DL) <\/a>acknowledged the anticipated operational challenges brought about by the Midwest’s severe weather, extending into the potential impact on the following day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest Airlines (WN)<\/a> has issued a travel advisory, cautioning that certain flights in areas like Chicago, Detroit, and Omaha may encounter disruptions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)<\/a> issued a warning on Thursday, indicating that flights at specific airports might face delays due to clouds, snow, and strong winds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest and United Flight Cancellations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Southwest Airlines tops the list of cancellations with 270 flights, closely followed by United Airlines (UA)<\/a>, which canceled 252 flights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

United Airlines has also extended cancellations through Saturday, awaiting regulatory approvals to resume the operation of Boeing’s 737 MAX 9<\/a> jets in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, United is actively working to bring its MAX 9 jets back into service and is adjusting its flight schedule by substituting other aircraft types for some planned flights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FAA initiated a formal investigation on the 737 MAX 9 after an Alaska Airlines (AS)<\/a> flight experienced a cabin panel detachment mid-air last week, prompting an emergency landing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
